Course Overview

This comprehensive course is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of clay sculpting techniques, including clay modeling, carving, coil, pinch, relief art, and slab building. Students will explore diverse sculptural forms as a means of concept development, learn to develop visual ideas, analyze contemporary concepts, and gain proficiency in the fundamentals of pottery art and the creation of clay artwork for decorative purposes. The course also includes three-dimensional or sculptural activities with various materials, both natural and man-made.

Module 1: Introduction to Clay Sculpting Techniques

Module 2: Coil and Pinch Pottery
  • Coil building techniques.
  • Pinch pot techniques.
  • Clay, rolling pins, sculpting tools.
  • Relief Art and Slab Building.
  • Materials: Clay, rolling pins, slab roller or rolling pin guides, sculpting tools
Module 3: Exploring Diverse Sculptural Forms
  • Abstract forms
  • Figurative sculpture
  • Materials: Clay, sculpting tools, additional materials for three-dimensional activities
Module 4: Concept Development and Analysis
  • Developing visual ideas.
  • Analyzing contemporary concepts.

Module 5: Clay Pottery and Decorative Artworks
  • Fundamentals of pottery art.
  • Creating clay artwork for decorative purposes.
